Generic Carbon Emissions Question 12
Does the webshop offer consumers the option to send their orders 'climate neutral' through credible carbon compensation programs?
Apart from reducing the delivery transport emissions through efficiency, electric transport or biofuels, the remaining carbon emissions will still be considered in our ranking criteria for the next few years. Therefore, carbon compensation - done credibly - is desirable. Compensation can include: - Hired logistics company can compensate (part of) transport carbon emissions - Webshops can take care of compensation by default for all - or a part of the transport carbon emissions - Webshops can promote carbon compensation towards consumers and include this in the booking process. In the Dutch travel sector it was proven that with good promotion, 40% of consumers pay additional fees for carbon compensation.
Please note that for carbon compensation the guidelines as described in Generic Carbon Emissions Question 3 are applicable.
Yes is given when:
- The hired logistics company already compensates all transport carbon emissions, on the condition that this compensation scheme meets Generic Carbon Emissions Question 3;
- The webshop itself already compensates all transport carbon emissions, on the condition that this compensation scheme meets Generic Carbon Emissions Question 3;
- The webshop clearly offers consumers the option to have their order sent 'climate neutral' through a carbon compensation scheme that meets Generic Carbon Emissions Question 3. This option should be integrated in the buying process.
