1. Most of the questions for the Electronics and ICT hardware section about Ecology and Climate Change are based on the index that Greenpeace has produced for their 'Guide to Greener Electronics’. Further explanations of every question and its backgrounds is present in their document ‘New improved ranking criteria explained’.

2. There are a few ‘couples of questions’ in which the same question is used. For example: ‘Has the company eliminated PVC and BFRs in all applications?’ (in Climate Change question 1) and ‘Has the company eliminated PVC and BFRs in all applications already?’ (in Climate Change question question 2). The reason is that a company that has already accomplished to eliminate the use of PVC and BFR doesn’t have a timeline anymore. If we would only ask ‘does the company present a timetable to eliminate PVC and BFRs in all applications’, this company would score ‘no’, while it is further in its environmental policies than a company which only has a timeline. In that case, there is no difference in the scores between a company with a timeline and a company which has already eliminated the use of the chemicals. To prevent such a situation, we created two questions in which the latter can score two times ‘yes’, thereby getting a better rate than the former.
