Question

Does the brand have clear achievements and targets to increase the use of recycled and biodegradable materials in its car fleet?

German version: Kann das Unternehmen eindeutige Erfolge oder Ziele vorweisen, die verdeutlichen, dass es den Anteil recycelbarer und biologisch abbaubarer Materialien in seinem Fahrzeugpark erhöht?

References

Referring to the Cradle to Cradle philosophy, materials should be useful after product life, where waste equals food. Still far away from a closed loop of materials, car brands can at least show their engagement in recycling by actually adopting recycled materials, and biodegradable materials like natural fibres and bioplastics.

French car brands like Peugeot set the benchmark for this by giving an actual achievement (stating that 6% of the used polymers are 'green': recycled or bio-based materials), and have a short term, ambitious target (to be increased to 30% by 2013).

Please note that for this question we look specifically at the brand's level, so information on the conglomerate's website is only accountable when the conglomerate specifically refers to the brand.

Ranking guidelines

Rank Yes:

- When the brand clearly describes a fleet-wide achievement and short term target, expressed in percentages on the total use of materials, and at least for the polymers.

Note - You can include this statement if the brand mentions a recycling program that meets the bare minimum of our requirements, but is not very diverse (ie only includes steel): "RAB believes that companies should expand and diversify their use of recycled materials beyond the steel sector."
