NOTE THAT WE HAVE PUT THIS QUESTION TEMPORARILY ON INACTIVE
Question
Has more that 10% of the brand's (company's) annual volumes been produced according to environmental certification, so as to reduce the environmental impact of the ‘wet processes’ within the production cycle?
Heeft het merk (bedrijf) meer dan 10% van zijn jaarlijks volume laten produceren volgens milieu certificeringen om zo de milieu impact van de 'natte processen' in de productieketen te verminderen?
Reference
This question relates to aspect EN21 in the Reporting Guidelines & Apparel and Footwear Sector Supplement of the Global Reporting Initiative, and is applicable to the production stages.
Ranking guideline
A ‘Yes’ goes to companies that follow certification schemes for at least 10% of their volumes. Examples of environmental certification schemes are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), the EU Ecolabel (the flower) and Oeko-tex 1000.
Note that Bluesign certification is on a firm ‘hold’ as their list of criteria are not openly available, there are no independent environmental NGO’s in the board of the organization, and their promotional material contains ungrounded information that can be misleading; namely the comparison of the Bluesign standard with other ecological labels.
Also note that Business for Social Responsibility BSR is on hold until we have found an expert opinion from a leading environmental NGO (the request is vacant).
Also note that Made in Green is on hold until we have received a second expert opinion.
Note that Oeko-Tex 100 does not for example cover the water effluent issues for the production stages and therefore cannot be considerated for the ‘Yes’ answer.
