Does the brand (company) have a published list of direct suppliers, that have collectively contributed to more than 90% of the purchase volume?

  • Dutch version: Heeft het merk (bedrijf) een lijst van fabrieken gepubliceerd die samen meer dan 90% van het inkoopvolume vertegenwoordigen?
  • German version: Hat der Markenhersteller eine Liste der direkten Zulieferer veröffentlicht die gemeinschaftlich mehr als 90% des Einkaufsvolumens beitragen?


One of the ultimate (and unusual) ways to boost transparency is to share the supplier list with other brands (as usual within most MSI’s) or even better, to put the list online. Brands like Nike, Nudie Jeans and H&M Group - but also in other industries - have done so, and that is why we endorse this gesture as a ‘best practice’.

Note: at Telecom Provider brands we in first instance refer to direct suppliers of its product offering, while suppliers for own operations equipment don't necessarily need to be listed too.

Ranking Guidelines

You can reward a ‘Yes’ if the list is not older than 2,5 years and is most likely to cover more than 90% of the brand’s total final production stage, which typically is Tier 1 stage (see e.g. PUMA example below).

  • Good practice examples by brands in terms of specifying Tier stages in a supply / production chain:

- Fashion brand PUMA provided an exemplary presentation of its manufacturing activities by tier (see link, page 46) in its 2014 Annual Report, which goes as follow:

"- Tier 2: Outsourcing (e.g. Embroidery, Cutting, Printing),"
"- Tier 3: Processing (e.g. Dye Houses, Tanneries, Packaging),"
